Obituary

Bessie F. (Look) Jenkins, 91 of Whitman, passed away on April 7th surrounded by her family, after a period of failing health. She was predeceased by Clinton T. Jenkins, her husband of 62 years, Paula Riskin, her daughter and Evelyn Churchill, her sister. She leaves behind her 3 children and their spouses; Douglas & Diane Jenkins of Marston Mills, MA, Marsha & Wayne Alden of Whitman, MA; David & Susan Jenkins of Auburn, NH and her son-in-law Glenn Riskin of So. Easton, MA; her sister Phyllis Flood of Whitman, MA; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.


Bessie was a graduate of Whitman High School, President of her nursing school class at Quincy City Hospital. Bessie worked as a registered nurse at the Brockton Hospital for 20 years.

She was active in the Charity Club and Couples Club and a long standing member of the Whitman United Methodist Church. Bessie enjoyed knitting, crocheting and working on the church fairs.

Bessie and Clint enjoyed camping and traveled to the National Parks and Grand Canyon, as well as Canada and Florida; she loved the time spent on Cape Cod with family. She was a wonderful cook and was famous for cooking dinners for her family on Sunday’s and Holiday’s. Her family and church were the center of her life.

A memorial service will be held on Monday April 15th at 10:30 AM in the United Methodist Church, 503 South Ave., Whitman. Burial will follow in the Colebrook Cemetery, Whitman.

The family is grateful to the Colony House in Abington for the wonderful, loving care given to Bessie over the last several years. In lieu of flowers donations may be given to Whitman United Methodist Church Memorial Fund, 503 South Ave, Whitman, MA 02382 or to the Colony House Activities Dept., 277 Washington St, Abington, MA 02351.
