Obituary

TAUNTON – Richard Gallego, husband of Rita D. (Dias) Gallego of Taunton, died at Morton Hospital on April 7, 2013, surrounded by his family.
He was 81.
Born and raised in Taunton, he was the son of the late Joseph and Clemera (Souza) Gallego.
He attended Taunton schools, and later received a G.E.D. from Cape Cod Community College.
Mr. Gallego owned and operated the former Gallego Oil Co. for thirty years, retiring several years ago.
A member of the Masons and the Weary Travelers of Monument Beach, he was a life member of the B.P.O. Elks Lodge 150 and the Portuguese American Civic Club.
Richard will be remembered for his generous, charitable nature and his willingness to reach out to those in need.
Besides his wife of fifty-two years, he leaves a son, Wayne Farias of Westport; a daughter, Nancy M. Tavares and her husband David of Taunton; four grandchildren, Shelley Barry of Taunton, Amanda Farias of Taunton, Jennifer Farias of Mansfield, and Jordan Farias of Westport; four great grandchildren, Raegan Barry, Emma and Brody McPherson, and James Farias; his best friend, Richard Parker of Taunton; and several nieces and nephews.
He was also the father of the late R. Scott Gallego, and the brother of the late James, David and Joseph Gallego.
His funeral will be held from the Silva Funeral Home, 80 Broadway Taunton on Thursday, April 11th at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at Holy Rosary Church at 10 a.m.
Burial will be at St. Joseph Cemetery.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
Calling Hours will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, April 10th from 5 to 8 p.m.
