Obituary

John J. Palombo, 90, died Friday, April 5, 2013 in Cortland Place, Greenville. He was the husband of Mary Ellen “Paddy”(Magee) Palombo. They were married for 65 years.

Born in North Providence, son of the late Louis and Eleanor (Massorotti) Palombo, he previously resided in North Scituate for 44 years.

John was an Army Veteran of WWII. He owned the Moose Head Diner on Hartford Avenue in Johnston until 1965. His fascination with wood was the motivation for after-work projects ranging from building a boat to constructing his home in Scituate. He also enjoyed handcrafting furniture and clocks.

John retired from Rhode Island College in 1989, where he was appointed Carpenter Supervisor and earned the Outstanding Performance Award for exceptional service during 1987-1988.

Besides his wife, he leaves several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Louis Palombo, Mary Rega, Louise LaPolla, Anna Piette, and Esther Vitale.

His funeral will be held Tuesday at 11am in the chapel at St. Ann’s Cemetery, Cranston. In lieu of flowers donations in his memory may be made to Gentiva Hospice, 2374 Post Road, Suite 206, Warwick, RI 02886.
