Marie Jacqueline Zager, aged 88, died Saturday, April 6, 2013, at Sacred Heart Home in New Bedford. She was the wife of the late John Paul Zager. Marie was the loving mother of Jeanne Currin and her husband Howard of Fairhaven, Jeannette Minner widow of Donald of Felton DE, Jerry Zager and his wife Sandy of Freetown, Jacqueline Hughes and her husband Patrick of New Bedford, and Jeannine Zager widow of Richard Wills of Florida. Mrs. Zager is also survived by 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren 2 great great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews; as well as her sister in laws; Marie Hetu and Shirley Dube. Mrs. Zager is predeceased by 4 brothers and 3 sisters.
Mrs. Zager was the daughter of the late Emilie (Berube) and Jeremie LaFrance. She was born in New Bedford and lived in this area all her life. She worked for the Verizon phone company before her retirement. Marie was a sports fanatic as many people may recall. She was a simple woman and worked very hard for her family. Marie was a devoted Catholic and was a proud recipient of the Marian Medal which she received for her devoted volunteer work at St. Anne’s.
Mrs. Zager’s funeral will be from the Perry Funeral Home, 111 Dartmouth St. on Wednesday April 10th at 9 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church at 10:00 A.M. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Tuesday from 6-8 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited.
