On April 6, 2013, Monetsi Unkelbach, who accepted Christ as her Savior and was a follower, was welcomed into her heavenly home. Monetsi (affectionately known as “Ginga” by her grandchildren), was born February 3, 1923 to Blanch Inez Diehl & Edward Morton Reid Jr. in Orlando, FL. Monetsi joined the US Army and served in WWII in the WAC as a Technical Medical Sergeant. She caught the eye of Louis H Unkelbach, a sergeant in the US Army and they married in 1947 and had three sons. In 1953 the family moved to Jacksonville, FL where she was widowed at a young age. Monetsi worked selflessly to provide for her three sons. In 1969, Monetsi began study to become a respiratory therapist and worked for 12 years at St. Luke’s Hospital. She retired in 1982, and lovingly helped with her grandchildren. Monetsi loved her family and all of God’s creation. She enjoyed working in her yard and had a special love for birds. She is well-known for her “donut tree” that provided food for the neighborhood birds and squirrels and her special Christmas cookies.
Monetsi is preceded in death by her parents, Blanch Inez Diehl & Edward Morton Reid Jr., her husband, Louis H. Unkelbach, and her brother, David Reid. She is survived by three sons, Michael (Beth) Unkelbach of Lakeland, FL, David (Mary Kay) Unkelbach of Jacksonville, FL and Hoby (Jan) Unkelbach of Jacksonville, FL, 6 grandchildren, 8 great grandchildren with one more on the way, and her loving sister, Dottie Sigh of Crystal River, FL.
The family requests that donations be made in her honor to Northeast Florida Community Hospice.
