BEVERLY: Norman E. Trefry, 82, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, April 3, 2013 following an extended illness. He was the husband of Sylvia (Stone) Trefry with whom he shared fifty-six years of marriage.
Born in Beverly on May 21, 1930, he was the son of the late L. Earle and Catherine (Burkinshaw) Trefry. Norman grew up in Beverly and was a graduate of Beverly High School class of 1948 and The Wentworth Institute of Technology class of 1954. He also served in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War.
Norman was employed as a letter carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Beverly for twenty-seven years. Prior to his retirement, he also worked for the C.C. Trefry Painting Company, the Cummings Center and the Cutler School in Hamilton. He was a long-time member of the Living Hope Church of the Nazarene in Beverly.
His happiness in life was spending time with his children and grandchildren. Norman was an avid fan of Beverly High School football and the New England Patriots. He also enjoyed taking care of his old, first-period, colonial home. Traveling the world, he visited Europe, the West Indies, Canada and the United States, including Hawaii.
After a near-fatal 1988 bee sting, he gave his heart to the Lord, living a victorious, abundant Christian life and was an inspiration to all who knew him. Norman greatly appreciated the exceptional care given by the Hospice of the North Shore and Sharon Fenton of Ipswich during his illness.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons, Charles C. Trefry and Winston B. Trefry and his wife, Deana; two daughters, Hope B. Rawding and Wilhelmina R. Euell and her husband, Patrick; seven grandchildren, Vanessa, Jack and Dylan Euell, Glen Rawding, Luke, Grace and Faith Trefry; a brother, L. Richard Trefry and many nieces and nephews. He was also predeceased by his brother, John A. Trefry.
A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, April 13th in the Living Hope Church of the Nazarene, 556 Cabot St., Beverly at 11 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There are no visiting hours. Interment will be held in the Central Cemetery, Beverly.
