Meredith---Robert J. Bennett, Sr., 87, of 10 Livingston Road, died at the Lakes Region General Hospital, Laconia on Wednesday, April 3, 2013.
Mr. Bennett was born April 2, 1926 in Watertown, Mass., the son of the late Norman and Mary (Horgan) Bennett. He served in the U. S. Army during WWII from 1944-1945.
Mr. Bennett resided in Vero Beach, Florida and in recent years, resided in the Meredith, N.H. area. He was also a longtime Bangor area, Maine resident. He was a wholesale florist and was founder and owner of the Robert J. Bennett Wholesale Florist in Brewer, Maine, retiring in 1990.
Mr. Bennett restored and collected antique Ford cars and loved baseball and dogs. He was an avid Red Sox fan and enjoyed watching the Red Sox with his family.
Mr. Bennett was a devoted husband and father. He is survived by a daughter Christine Morse, her husband Edward Morse and daughter Mary Ann Ferris; a son, Robert D. Bennett; four grandchildren, Andrew Bennett, Alex Bennett (USMC), Charley Ferris (USMC) and Christine Ferris; two great grandchildren and a sister, Rita Manning and his sister-in-law Mary Soby. In addition to his parents, Mr. Bennett was predeceased by his wife of fifty-nine years, Margaret J. (Murphy) Bennett and his brother, Norman Bennett.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday, April 7, 2013 from 1:00-3:00PM in the Carriage House of the Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, N.H. A Funeral Service will follow the calling hours at 3:00PM also at the Funeral Home.
