Obituary

DANVERS - Lorinda M. (Folsom) Jones, 90, wife of the late William D. Jones, die peacefully in her sleep on Friday, July 30, 2004. She was a resident of Radius Healthcare Center in Danvers for over 29 years.

Born in Salem on May 7, 1914, she was the daughter of the late John and Mary Ann (Lee) Folsom. She attended Salem schools and was an Andrews Scholar graduate of Salem Classical and High School, class of 1931. She received her BA degree from Salem Teachers College and her MA in Education from Boston University.

Her first teaching job was in Holland, MA in a two-room schoolhouse. There she taught grades 4 - 8 for several years. She later taught in West Concord schools as well as the Belcher School in East Milton where she was a principal for many years. Mrs. Jones became the first principal of the Steward School in Topsfield. She retired after teaching for over 31 years in six communities in 1964.

Mrs. Jones enjoyed doing fine handwork such as tatting and embroidery as well as artwork. Writing was her hobby and she produced many poems, letters and articles for many newspapers. In 1995, it was a dream come true when she had a book published with her collection of writings titled “Tales from a Nursing Home, Much This and That.”

Mrs. Jones was a lifelong member of the St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Salem and a life member of the Salem State College Alumni Association.

She is survived by her brother, John R. Folsom, Jr., of Orlando, Florida and her sister, Calista F. Greenough of Danvers, seven nieces and nephews, ten great nieces and nephews and three great great nephews and nieces.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 14, 2004 at 11:30 am at the St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, Salem. There are no visiting hours. Arrangements are by the Full-Spychalski Funeral Home, 84 Washington Square East, by Salem Common, Salem.
