Obituary

CHICOPEE – James L. “Jimmy” Goyette, 70, of Chicopee, was Called Safely Home on Tuesday, April 2, 2013. He passed into Eternal Life at home surrounded by the care and comfort of his loving family. He was born in Holyoke on October 20, 1942, a beloved son of the late Laurence C. and Mary E. (Greaney) Goyette. He was raised in South Hadley and graduated from South Hadley High School before moving to Chicopee in 1965. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War and attained the rank of Specialist Four. He was employed for 40 years as a machine operator at Rexham Graphics in South Hadley and retired in 2003. He was a communicant of Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. Jimmy loved taking his many trips to the Foxwoods and Mohegan Sun casinos and his favorite place on earth was the island of St. Martin. He showered his family with his love and affection which was returned to him a thousand fold. He leaves his devoted wife and best friend, Jean R. (Coderre) Goyette. They were married on June 11, 1966 at the former Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Chicopee and were blessed with over 46 years of happiness together. He also leaves his beloved children, Steven J. Goyette and his wife, Nancy, of Coventry, CT and Michelle M. Goyette of Chicopee; his dear brother, David Goyette and his wife, Gretchen, of Enfield, CT; and his many dear nephews and nieces. His funeral will be held on Monday morning, April 8, 2013, beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His Committal Service with Military Honors will take place following the Mass at the Chapel of the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1390 Main Street, Agawam, MA 01001. His family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, April 8, 2013, from 9 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. prior to the Mass. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. His family has requested that memorial donations be made in his memory to Jericho, PO Box 1039, Holyoke, MA 01041-1039 or to the Chicopee Council on Aging Building Fund, 7 Valley View Court, Chicopee, MA 01020.
