Obituary

Patrick Gallivan, 78, of West Boylston and South Dennis, died, Tuesday, April 2nd in his home. He leaves his wife of 47 years, Mary M. (Quinn) Gallivan; two sons, Patrick J. Gallivan of South Burlington, VT and John P. Gallivan and his wife, Gina of Wethersfield, CT; two daughters, Maureen A. Gallivan of Worcester and Eileen M. Foley and her husband, William of Holden; two brothers, Timothy of Bradenton, FL and Paul and his wife, Eileen of Killarney, County Kerry, Ireland; two sisters, Peggy Corrigan of Louisburg, County Mayo, Ireland and Sheila Reilly and her husband, John of Worcester; four grandchildren, Grace, Patrick and Owen Foley, and Caroline Gallivan; and many nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his brothers, Denis and Cornelius; and two sisters, Catherine Blessington and Mary Gallivan.

He was born in Killarney, County Kerry, Ireland the son of Cornelius and Margaret (McCarthy) Gallivan and came to Worcester in 1954. Patrick had worked for the Norton Company for 30 years as a stationary fireman, retiring in 1999 He had previously been employed by Commonwealth Gas for 15 years. He was a member of St. Christopher’s Parish since his marriage in 1966; a member of the Pioneer Total Abstinence Association of the Sacred Heart, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, Division 36, since his arrival in Worcester in 1954, and the Sons of Erin in Yarmouth.

Patrick who cherished his faith was a devoted husband, father and grandfather who was adored by his family. He also had the blessings of many wonderful friends who he always enjoyed spending time with at Irish dances, playing cards or over a simple cup of tea. His sense of humor was infectious, and his Irish wit never ending. Pat will be missed by his family and friends and leaves all who knew him with a collection of lasting memories.

His funeral is Saturday, April 6th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Christopher’s Church, 950 West Boylston Street. Entombment will follow in St. John’s Cemetery Mausoleum. Calling hours are Friday, April 5th from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m. in the funeral home.
