Obituary

SPRINGFIELD – Luba M. (Wankewicz) Wiggins, 63, of the East Springfield section of Springfield, was Called Safely Home on Easter Sunday, March 31, 2013. She passed into Eternal Life at Baystate Medical Center surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her wonderful caregivers. She was born in Witzenhausen, Germany on November 6, 1949, a beloved daughter of the late John and Nina (Kalenchenko) Wankewicz. In 1952, her parents relocated to Landsdale, Pennsylvania where she lived and graduated from Saint Stanislaus High School. Around 1967, she relocated to the Bronx in New York City where she met her husband, Itill A. Wiggins, who was the love of her life. They married on March 3, 1973 in New York and moved to the East Springfield section of Springfield in 1985. Luba began her work career at the former Del Padre on Worthington Street in Springfield and worked there until the business closed. She later was employed as a customer service representative and dispatcher at Manny’s TV and Appliances on Boston Road in Springfield before retiring in 1997. During her leisure time, Luba enjoyed gardening, keeping her home spotless, cooking and being a homemaker to her loving family. Many of her neighbors would often comment on the beautiful flowers that she so lovingly cultivated around her home during the summer. She was a loving woman who adored her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She leaves her devoted husband and best friend of 40 years, Itill A. Wiggins; her five loving children, Nina M. Ware and Itill H.W. Wiggins, both of Springfield, and Jimmy Lavani, Joey Lavani and Stephanie Levani, all of Rochester, NY; her nine cherished grandchildren, Amber A. Wiggins and Deja L. Ware, both of Springfield, Taylor B. Mason of Williamsburg, VA, Itill H. Wiggins, Jr., Devin M. Wiggins, Jahnae J. Wiggins and Colin R. Wiggins, all of Springfield and Sophia Lavani and Isabella Lavani, both of Rochester, NY; her two cherished great-granddaughters, Amani D. Brown and London A. Brown, both of Springfield; her two dear brothers, John Wankewicz and his wife, Michelle, of Cape Cod, and Steve Wankewicz and his wife, Dorothy, of Landsdale, PA; and her many dear nephews and nieces. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her loving daughter, Jennifer L. Wiggins who was Called Home on February 13, 2003; and her dear sister Vera Wankewicz. A Celebration of her Life will be held on Monday morning April 8, 2013 at 10 a.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels,(413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (with the funeral home opening at 8:30 a.m.). Her burial will follow the Celebration at Hillcrest Park Cemetery, 895 Parker Street, Springfield, MA 01129. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, April 7, 2013 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Her family has requested that if desired, memorial donations be made in her memory to the Children’s Miracle Network at Baystate Medical Center, 280 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01199.
