Obituary

Elizabeth A. Lamb, 87, of River Road, passed away peacefully at home on Wednesday, March 20, 2013, surrounded by her family.

Born on May 7, 1925, in Mystic, she was the daughter of the late Sylvester and Eleanor McNeill. Her loving husband, John Alden Rathbun Lamb, predeceased Elizabeth in 1993. Together they operated a portrait photography studio on Water St. in Mystic, from 1948 to 1958. Elizabeth perfected the technique of colorizing Alden's black and white photographs.

While raising five children, Alden and Betty enjoyed hunting for treasures at yard sales and local antique shops. Elizabeth enjoyed the arts throughout her life, specializing in pastel portraits and oil landscapes. She was a resident artist at the Lyme Art Association and volunteered her services to LAA as a receptionist. For many years, Elizabeth and her warm smile greeted visitors at the gallery. She never missed a chance to share her love of art with anyone that would engage her. She could often be found at the beach at McCook's Point in Niantic enjoying the view with her coffee and newspaper. Elizabeth was a faithful Christian, praying until she went to be with our Lord.

Elizabeth is survived by four sons, Robert B. Lamb and wife, Maureen (Gillen), of Honolulu, Hawii, John A. R. Lamb and his wife, Michelle, of Smithfield, Va., Charles L. Lamb and his wife, Christine (Kelly), of Mystic and Stuart A. Lamb and his wife, Lisa (Funari), of Stonington; a daughter, Eleanor L. Getchell of Waterford; and Eleanor's companion, Stephen Cardoza; sisters, Frances Gillen of Groton, Marguerite Sheflott of Ft. Pierce, Fla., Claire Russell of Charlotte, N.C.; brothers, Charles McNeill of Westerly, Robert McNeill of Ft. Pierce, Fla. and Vermont; and 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, at The Dinoto Funeral Home, 17 Pearl St., historic downtown Mystic. A Funeral Service will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, at the funeral home.
