Obituary

Andover — After an amazing life, Monica Alaburda Endelos died peacefully on March 26, 2013. Born August 4, 1909 in Lowell, Massachusetts to Peter and Sophie Alaburda, Monica grew up with her parents and siblings, attending Lowell public schools. She was industrious and eventually became a very successful businesswoman owning her own business, Victory Knitwear, in Lawrence, Massachusetts. After selling her business, Monica continued her retail career working alongside her brother-in-law, the late Albert Sweet in Lowell retiring at age 75. Monica was both well known and greatly respected in both cities. Monica was married to her husband, Anthony Endelos for over fifty years. They lived with their daughter, Claire, in Methuen. Monica is predeceased by her husband, Anthony, and her beloved sister, Anne Sweet. She is survived by her sister Helen Juges, a longtime resident of Salem, NH. Monica also leaves her only child, Claire Hamel, of Andover, Massachusetts. She was known to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren as Bobe. She dedicated her life to her daughter and her daughter’s children and their families: John Hamel, Jr. of Silvermine, CT, his wife, Cristina and their two children, Caroline and Jack; Ann Hamel and her husband, Michael Canavan of East Thetford, VT and their three sons, Drew of Indiana, Morgan of California, and Owen of Vermont; Andrew Hamel and his wife, Sandy, and their two sons, Tyler and Duncan of Kittery Point, Maine, and Dr. Dennis Hamel of Andover, MA, and her former son-in-law, John Hamel, also of Andover. Monica is well remembered as being generous and compassionate to all. She was a lifelong supporter of St. Francis Church in Lawrence and a devout Catholic. Later in life she moved to Andover to live with her daughter and became a member of St. Augustine’s Church in Andover, MA. Most remarkable about her later years was her deep gratitude to those who helped her.
