Obituary

Betty A. (Hegstrom) Ames, 75, of Fairhaven, formerly of Macomb, Ill. died July 27, 2004 at Alden Court Nursing Care and Rehabilitation Center.

Born in Macomb, Ill. the daughter of the late Carl William Reynold Hegstrom and Thelma Hazel (Cannivat) Hegstrom, she lived in Macomb for many years before moving to Fairhaven.

Mrs. Ames was formerly employed at Western Illinois University until her retirement. She was actively engaged in genealogical research. She had many publications and research documents archived. Over the years she helped many people research their family tree and prepare for application to the Daughters of the American Revolution. Her research has been turned over to her loving cousin, Kathleen Cooper, who is continuing the family tradition. These documents will be donated to the genealogy library according to her wishes.

Mrs. Ames was a Girl Scouts leader for many years and was active with the Boy Scouts as her son was an Eagle Scout. She has been a member of the Lucille Chapter #361 Order of Eastern Star for over 30 years. She was a sponsoring mother for the Rainbow Girls. She was active in the Rebecca's and the Business and Professional Women's Club. Her crafts hobbies will live on with every memorable piece she created and gave to friends and family. Like many mothers in her time, she was a room mother at school with her children and loved to play Santa Claus during the school holiday celebrations.

Survivors include her daughter, Lyn Ames and family of Fairhaven; a brother, William J. Hegstrom and family of Delray Beach, Fl.; her dear friends Mr. & Mrs. Harold Feikert and family of Bushnell, Il.

She was the mother of the late William Clark Ames.

Her memorial services will be held in Illinois. Interment will be in the Oakwood Cemetery in Macomb, Ill.
