Gertrude L (McGrath) McSweeney Gertrude L (McGrath) McSweeney, a longtime Needham resident and volunteer died on Tuesday July 27 at the Leonard Morse Hospital in Natick. She was 71 years old. She was a graduate of Salve Regina College class od 1954. “Gert’s” love of children and sports, especially baseball led her to be an active member of the Needham baseball community, having served on the board of directors of Needham Little League, New England Summer League Baseball and the Needham Boosters Club. She was a tireless volunteer and fund raiser for Post 14 Baseball. Beloved wife of Joseph J McSweeney for 44 years. Gertrude was the loving mother of Marguerite (Maggie) DeCrescente of East Hampton CT, Linda Henriksen of North Attleboro, MA. Laurence of Berwick Victoria Australia, Paul and Mark both of Needham and Michael of Douglasville GA. Sister of Msgr. Laurence McGrath of St. John’s Seminary and Thomas McGrath of Auburn N.H. Also survived by 12 Grandchildren. Funeral From the Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Ave. Needham on Saturday July 31 at 9:00 AM followed by a Funeral Mass at St. Joseph Church Needham at 10:00 AM. Visiting Hours on Friday from 4-8:00 PM. Interment at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Needham.
