Karl R. Fitzgerald, a former resident of Ossining, NY, died March 22 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack NH. He resided in Bonita Springs, FL. He was 75.
He was born November 13, 1937, in Cresson, PA to Francis and Mary Burns Fitzgerald. He was married for 53 years to Kathleen Fitzgerald who predeceased him in September of 2012. He was also predeceased by a daughter Margaret "Peggy" Fitzgerald McCann.
He is survived by two daughters Patricia Bedinger and her husband Paul, Lynne Roe and a son Timothy Fitzgerald and is wife Jean. He is also survived by his eleven grandchildren; Erin McCann, Kyle, Keegan, and Kate Bedinger, TJ, Maggie, Andrew, and William Fitzgerald, Shea, Madison, and Garrett Roe.
He served in the United States Marine Corp for two years and was honorably discharged in 1958. He went on to have a successful career in business with the last 26 years as a Senior Vice President at the Readers Digest Association in Pleasantville, NY. In the mid 1970's Karl was instrumental in establishing the CYO basketball program at St Augustine's School in Ossining, NY. He was an avid golfer and an active member of Sleepy Hollow Country Club. He served as a volunteer for the Westchester Golf Association (WGA) with his primary focus on the WGA's Caddy Scholarship Program. His greatest love of all was being with his family. He especially enjoyed spending time with his eleven grandchildren.
Calling hours are from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Ossining Funeral Home, 45 South Highland Avenue. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Augustine Church in Ossining. Burial will follow at St. Augustine Cemetery.
