Obituary

Mr. John J. Walsh, of Assonet, died unexpectedly Saturday, March 23 in the Charlton Memorial Hospital, Fall River. He was the beloved husband of Mary L. (Berube) Walsh. He was born 70 years ago in Cambridge, the son of the late Charles J. and Mary K. (Whelan) Walsh. He was educated in Belmont and had been an Assonet resident for over 30 years. Prior to his retirement, he had been employed in wastewater treatment for several firms in southeastern Massachusetts. He was previously employed at the Hershey Meter Foundry in Dedham, and was formerly employed as a jet mechanic at Logan International Airport in Boston. John was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Vietnam War, having served as an Aviation Machinists Mate at several stations in Vietnam and around the world. He was a member of the Board of Directors at The Cove at Yarmouth and also served on the Town of Freetown Water Department. He enjoyed spending time with his large, loving extended family, especially his grandson, Evan, traveling, grilling, and gardening.
In addition to his wife, he leaves: 1 son: John Walsh; 1 stepson: Michael Isidorio of Berkley; 1 brother: William C. Walsh of Durango, Col.; 2 grandchildren: Evan Isidorio and John Walsh, and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Visitation will be held at The Riendeau-Mulvey Funeral Home, 467 Bay Street, Taunton, on Wednesday, March 27, from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Expressions of sympathy in his memory may be made to the charity of your choice.
