Obituary

WEST SPRINGFIELD – Freda A. (Thomas) Annino, 98, a longtime resident of West Springfield was Called Safely Home on Thursday, March 21, 2013. She passed into Eternal Life at Mont Marie Health Care Center in Holyoke surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving daughter, Eveline and her wonderful caregivers. She was born in Waterville, Maine on November 6, 1914, a beloved daughter of the late Peter and Jamilia (Rumya) Thomas. She lived in Waterville, Maine until 1945 when she moved to Springfield. In 1955, she moved to West Springfield and lived there until she went to Mont Marie in 2010. Prior to her retirement in 1987, Freda was employed at the former Albert Steiger Company as an auditing clerk. She was a longtime communicant of Saint Anthony Maronite Catholic Church in Springfield. She was an accomplished seamstress, enjoyed reading, crossword puzzles and playing Scrabble. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family and her many friends. Besides her parents, Freda was predeceased by her three dear brothers, Elias, David and John Thomas; her two dear sisters, Tekla Stevens and Sadie Ferris; and her former husband, John Annino. She leaves her loving daughter and son-in-law, Eveline J. and Wayne P. Pilon of East Longmeadow; her two cherished grandsons, Dr. Andre M. Pilon of Washington, DC and Dylan N. Pilon of East Longmeadow; her dear sister, Anna Mitchell of Waterville, ME; her dear sister-in-law, Florence Annino of Westfield; her dear brother-in-law, Joseph Annino of Massachusetts; her many dear nephews and nieces; and her special friend, Fay Ladeau of West Springfield. Freda’s family would like to thank the staff at Mont Marie in Holyoke for their compassionate care and concern, not only for her physical needs, but most importantly for her spiritual and emotional well-being. The kindness extended to Freda’s family was deeply appreciated and will never be forgotten. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday morning, March 27, 2013 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Saint Anthony Maronite Catholic Church, 375 Island Pond Road, Springfield, MA 01118. Her burial will follow the Mass at Saint Michael Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield, MA 01109. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 26, 2013 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Her family has requested that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her memory to either the Shriners Hospital for Children, (Please specify Springfield), 516 Carew Street, Springfield, MA 01104 or to the Saint Anthony Children’s Scholarship Fund, Sponsored by the Richard S.
