AGAWAM - Mary K. O’Connor, 65, of Agawam, died on Thursday, March 21, 2013. She passed at Baystate Medical Center in Springfield surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and friends. Mary was born in Holyoke on September 21, 1947, beloved daughter of Viola M. (Majhor) O’Connor of Holyoke and the late Francis H. O’Connor who died on April 16, 2012. She was raised in Springfield and graduated from Cathedral High School, Class of 1965 and received an Associate’s Degree from Springfield Technical Community College. She furthered her education and graduated Cum Laude as an Ada Comstock Scholar from Smith College where she received her Bachelor’s Degree in Ethics/Philosophy. She then earned her Master’s Degree in Organizational Development from American International College, additionally receiving multiple certifications. Mary retired after a long career as a nursing home administrator. In addition to her mother, Mary leaves behind her beloved husband and best friend, George G. Young. They were married on April 7, 2007 and were blessed with 15 years of happiness together. Mary also leaves her four loving children, Donnie Hume and his wife, Michelle, of Ashburn, VA, Gerry Hume and his wife, Michele, of Pittsboro, NC, Addie K. (Hume) Gamble and her husband, Scott, of Agawam, and Christian Hume and his wife, Kristin, of Waxhaw, NC; her loving stepson, Derek Young and his wife, Monique, of Chicopee; her eight cherished grandchildren, Matthew Pereira and his wife, Liz, Shayna Hume, Jordan and Taylor Hume, Billy and Bobby Gamble, Shea and Chase Young, with a ninth grandchild due soon and great-grandson, Santi; her dear sisters and brothers, Kathleen O’Connor and Pat Fettinger of Deerfield, Patrick O’Connor and Maggie Vigil of Colorado Springs, CO, Barbara and Cal Astry of Eden Prairie, MN, and Thomas O’Connor of Agawam; and her many nephews, nieces and cousins. Besides her father, she was also predeceased by her sister-in-law, Patricia O’Connor. Funeral services will be held on Monday, March 25, 2013, beginning at the St. Pierre-Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels, (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020 (funeral home will open at 9:30 a.m.) followed by a service at 11:00 a.m. in the Saint Joseph Chapel at Mont Marie, 34 Lower Westfield Road, Holyoke, MA 01040. Her burial will be private. Mary’s family will receive friends at the funeral home on Sunday, March 24, 2013, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
