ROCKPORT: Ruth Marie (Smith) Todd, 64, passed peacefully, but unexpectedly, March 21, 2013 at the Addison Gilbert Hospital, surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife and best friend of Russell J. Todd.
Born in Portsmouth, NH on July 27, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Muriel Smith. She was a graduate of the Gloucester High School class of 1966.
Ruth was employed by the National Marine Fisheries for many years, having retired in 1998.
She attended the First Baptist Church. A very giving person, she was always doing something she knew would bring happiness to others. Her sense of humor was second to none.
She enjoyed watching her afternoon soaps relaxing with her “fur babies” Little B, M & M and her many birds. She was happiest when talking to and visiting with her family and friends.
In addition to her husband of twenty-six years, she is survived by her children, Barbara Walsh and her husband Thomas, Shelley Porter and her fiancé J.R. Hendrickson, Shawn Porter and his wife Danielle, Michelle Brumit and her husband Eddie and Russell J. “Rusty” Todd, Jr.; eight grandchildren, Leah-Marie Walsh, John-Daniel Walsh, Shawn Christopher Porter, Austin Porter, Charlie, Zoe and Chanse Brumit and Zackary Hendrickson and two great-grandchildren, Jason Sholds and Shyia-Rose Goodrich. She also leaves her sister, Julie Richiuts and her husband Richard, her special aunt, Bettylou Elliott and her husband Robert, a host of in-laws, as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friends including, Dale Morris.
A celebration of her life will be held on Saturday, March 30th in the First Baptist Church, Gloucester at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend. There are no visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her memory to the Cape Ann Animal Aid, 4 Paws Lane, Gloucester or the First Baptist Church “Memorial Fund”, 38 Gloucester Ave., Gloucester, MA 01930.
