Obituary

Charlene E. Palladino, Ph.D., Educator with diverse life and career experiences who was dedicated to teaching Italian. She was working as an Academic Specialist in Italian at Northeastern University in Boston. Charlene was a 25 year resident of Wakefield and formerly of Lynnfield. She entered into eternal life unexpectedly on Thursday, March 21, 2013 at Melrose-Wakefield Hospital in Melrose. She was 70 years old.

Charlene was born in Lynn on January 28, 1943, a daughter of the late Dr. Charles A. Palladino and Florence E. (Smith) Palladino. She grew up in Lynn for a short time before moving to Lynnfield, where she attended Lynnfield Public Schools and graduated from Lynnfield High School in 1960. From 1960 to 1964 she attended Newton College of the Sacred Heart in Newton and recieved her Bachelor of Science Degree in Liberal Arts. From 1964 to 1966 she attended Tufts University in Medford and recieved her Master's Degree in Sociology. From 1967 to 1968 she recieved her Master's Degree in Italian from The University of Florence, Italy. From 1968 to 1975 she recieved her Ph.D. in Romance Languages and Literatures (Italian and Advanced Latin) from Harvard University in Cambridge. In the early 1990's she recieved her Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing from Endicott College in Beverly. Before teaching at Northeastern University, Charlene worked as a Teacher of Italian at The Peabody School in Cambridge (under auspices of Italian Consulate), Instructor of Italian at Newbury College in Brookline, Instructor of Italian at North Shore Community College in Beverly, Instructor of Italian for Community Adult Education Program for Wakefield, North Reading and Lynnfield, Private Tutor of Italian for individual and group in Wakefield, Teacher of Italian for Revere Public Schools, Translator of Italian for hospital settings in Stoneham, Wilmington and Wakefield, Instructor of Italian for Garland Junior College in Boston,Interpreter of Italian for guided bus tours in Boston and Teacher of E.S.L. for Italian children in the North End of Boston. Charlene was a member of the Italian Culture Council of New England. She also worked as a Registered Nurse in the surrounding communities for several years. Charlene was a devoted friend of Bill W.

Charlene is the beloved daughter of the late Dr. Charles A. Palladino and Florence E. (Smith) Palladino. She is the loving twin sister of Marlene T. Ross and her husband Dale Ross of Springfield, Oregon formerly of Wilmington. She is the devoted aunt of Charles Ross of Framingham and Christine Ross of Oregon. She is also survived by many other relatives and friends.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Charlene's Funeral Mass on Monday, March 25, 2013 at 10:30 A.M. in The Most Blessed Sacrament Church, 1155 Main St. Wakefield. Burial will take place at St. Mary's Cemetery in Lynn. There are no funeral home visiting hours.
