Ruth I. (Conger) Ellis, 89, of Worcester died Monday, March 18th at home. Her husband of 58 years, Frederick S. Ellis died in 2005. She leaves her children, Lynne and her husband, E. Joseph Croteau of Worcester and Lee and Amalia Ellis of Auburn; three grandchildren, Amber Ellis, Lisa Croteau, Joseph Croteau and his wife, Theresa. She was predeceased by two brothers, Ross Conger and Albert Conger and a sister, June St. Amand.
She was born in Worcester, the daughter of Edmund and Beatrice (Hull) Conger. Ruth worked for the Worcester Public Schools for 20 years, retiring in 1985. She was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church and its choir and on many committees. Mrs. Ellis volunteered at Fairlawn Rehabilitation Hospital and Mill Swan School.
A visitation period will be held on Thursday, March 21st from 10:00 until 10:30 AM in O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue with a service following at 10:30 AM. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.
