ZAHEDI, Sohrab ‘Steve’, 78 years old, of Teaneck New Jersey died peacefully at his home on Saturday, March 16, 2013
Sohrab was born on May 17, 1934 to his parents, Ali Akbar Zahedi and Marzieh Zahedi. He has three brothers: Dr. Ali Asghar Zahedi, Manoochehr Zahedi, deceased and Khosrow Zahedi. His beloved sister is Shokooh Zahedi. His remaining siblings are all living in California amongst their extended families.
Sohrab grew up among his loving and respected family in Tehran, Iran. He attended the University of Tehran. In 1954, he and some close friends left Tehran for America where they continued their studies at the University of Oklahoma. Eventually settling in New Jersey, Sohrab completed his education at Fairleigh Dickinson University with graduate studies at Seton Hall University.
Sohrab began his career in Mechanical Engineering at National Starch & Chemical Co. in Newark, NJ.
He met Kathleen Cora Zahedi of Dungarven, Ireland in 1960. They married on August 4, 1962 and had celebrated their 50th Anniversary this past year. They have two children, Tyrone and Soraya. Soraya has two daughters, Brigitte and Jacqueline, their cherished grandchildren.
Sohrab ran his own company, Exact Tape Corp. in Ridgefield Park, NJ from 1967 to 1973 producing an industrial-strength, double-sided tape.
Following this, Sohrab had a distinguished career as Director of Facilities Management at Barnert Hospital in Paterson, NJ, the YM-YWHA in Wayne, NJ and finally the Board of Education of Teaneck, NJ.
Throughout life, Sohrab enjoyed sports such as basketball and swimming and in later years could be found doing his five-mile walks regularly. He was a bit of a car enthusiast having owned two classic Mercedes Benz models. He travelled extensively through Europe and the United States & Canada. He paved the way for all of his family members to make the transition from Iran to the United States over the years.
In retirement, Sohrab became an avid investor. His knowledge of world markets, world events and business are extensive and admirable.
Sohrab leaves a third generation legacy of mechanical engineers through his daughter Soraya and her daughter Brigitte.
Sohrab is survived by his wife, Kathleen, his son Tyrone and his daughter Soraya and her family.
Always a gentleman, beloved by friends and family, he will be missed.
Friends and family are invited for visitation on Wednesday, March 20th from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at Volk Leber Funeral Home, 789 Teaneck Road, Teaneck, NJ. A funeral service will begin on Thursday at 10 AM at the funeral home. Interment to follow at Laurel Grove Cemetery, Totowa, NJ.
