Betty Jean Reed Pitts, 65,of Fitzgerald, died Friday, March 15, 2013 at her residence.
A memorial service was held Sunday, March 17, 2013 at Christian Tabernacle with the Rev. Earlie Holt officiating.
Mrs. Pitts was born, August 17, 1947 in Ocilla, Georgia, to the late John Joseph Blackstock and the late Mildred Blackstock Woodruff. She was raised in Fitzgerald and was a homemaker and caregiver. Even at the time of her death she continued to care for others by donating her body to medical research. She was a member of Christian Tabernacle.
She is survived by her children: Marcy Byrd of Nashville, Lana Reed of Fitzgerald, James C. Reed of Fitzgerald and Tara Dixon of Cordele; Nine grandchildren: Mystical Byrd Harrod, Summer Reed, Jacob K. Riffe, Christin Sammons, Jay Sammons, Amanda Hagans, Branden Selph, Halie Gregory and Jada Reed; seven great-grandchildren and two sisters: Carolyn Bedingfield and Kay Floyd. Along with her parents she was preceded in death by her husband: Willie E. Pitts; one brother: J. C. Blackstock; two sisters: Dorothy Blackstock and Barbara Blackstock Brogdon.
