John J. McCarthy Jr., age 83, of Medford passed away July 27th, following a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of the late Frances “Dolly” (Coughlin). Born in Boston he was the son of the late Helen (Madden) and John J. McCarthy Sr.
Mr McCarthy was a life long resident of Medford. He was a retired shop steward for the W. R. Grace Co. of Cambridge where he worked for thirty years. Mr. McCarthy was also a fourth degree Knight of Columbus Medford Council 141.
He is survived by his children; Jack McCarthy and his wife Helen of No. Billerica, David McCarthy of Medford, Joanne Hourihan and her husband Dennis of Marshfield, Peggy Solano and her husband Joe of Burlington, Stephen McCarthy and his wife Kathy of Somerville, Rita Kathleen McCarthy of Medford and Denise Montalto and her husband Michael of Wilmington. He is also survived by 14 loving grandchildren and 6 loving great grandchildren. He is further survived by his sisters; Helen McCarthy of Weston, Sr. Rita McCarthy CSJ of Brighton, Maureen Leiser of Weston, and brothers, Russell of Southboro, Thomas of Ohio, William of Colorado the late Donald and Robert McCarthy.
Funeral from the Dello Russo Funeral Home 306 Main St. Medford, Saturday, at 10 AM. Followed by a funeral mass celebrated in St. Joseph Church 118 High St., Medford, at 11 AM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Friday 4 thru 8. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.
