Obituary

Louise E. (Marchant) Herbert Baker, age 96, passed away peacefully on Wednesday March 13 at the New Horizons Assisted Living in Marlborough where she currently resided. She was the beloved wife of the late Francis J. Herbert, Sr. and the late Henry Baker.
Born in Altoona, Pennsylvania, September 8, 1916, the daughter of the late Lewis and Myrtle (Rossell) Marchant she was the sister to eleven siblings, including her twin sister the late Agnes Hartman.
Louise spent most of her childhood on the family farm in Wilton, Connecticut where her favorite memories included ice skating on the pond with her siblings and friends.
Louis was employed as a head cashier at F.W. Woolworth of Philadelphia; a sales clerk at Strawbridge’s of Philadelphia; and as a candy maker at Pennsauken, New Jersey.
She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross for thirty-three years recording 11,000 hours. Her hobbies included; crocheting, doll-making, painting, and cake decorating- for which she won state and national awards. She was also an avid sports fan of baseball and golf.
Louise enjoyed her marriage of fifty-five years to the late Francis J. Herbert, Sr. and raising their two sons together in New Jersey. She later retired to Florida with her husband in 1986. Louis was also known for her great sense of humor.
She is survived by her son Francis J. Herbert, Jr. and his wife Beverly (Kovalchic) of Medway and her daughter-in-law Gisele (Carlino) of Minisink Hills Pennsylvania.
She was the mother of the late Dr. Edward W. Herbert.
She is also survived by her sister Miriam Carroll of New Jersey and her brother Roger Marchant of Florida.
She is also survived by her grandchildren Christopher Herbert and his wife Lori of Tennessee, Mark Herbert and his wife Kara of Massachusetts, Shannon Herbert of Pennsylvania, Kelly (Herbert) Santiestaban and her husband Pablo of Massachusetts and Ashley (Herbert) Oliver and her husband Jacob of Pennsylvania, five great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Louise’s family would like to thank the staff at New Horizon’s Assisted Living and the staff of Affinity Hospice for their loving care and support.
Services will be private.
