Obituary

LONGMEADOW – Bertha M. “Bert” (Eastman) Jessen, 76, of Emerson Manor in Longmeadow and a former longtime resident of Springfield was Called Safely Home on Thursday, March 14, 2013. She passed into Eternal Life at Redstone Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in East Longmeadow surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving daughter, Katri and her wonderful caregivers. She was born in Rockwood, Maine on July 3, 1936, a beloved daughter of the late Lyman T. and Marjorie (Stafford) Eastman. She was raised in Greenville, Maine and graduated from the Greenville Consolidated School. She later moved to Springfield and received a nursing certificate from the former Springfield Trade High School. She lived in Utah for several years before returning to Springfield around 2008. She was a private duty nurse and later worked for several years at the Soldiers Home in Holyoke. She was last employed at the Newington Veterans Medical Center in Newington, Connecticut before retiring in 2001. During her leisure time, Bert enjoyed traveling with the Bosch Travel Club. She leaves her loving children, Katri A. Foley and her husband, Thomas P. Foley, II, of South Hadley and Lorin T. Jessen and his wife, Hana, of East Greenwich, RI; her seven cherished grandchildren, Laura Renninger, Brian Walker and his wife, Tara, Jessica Walker, Lorin Andre and his wife, Kristin, Celine Andre and her fiancé, Justin, David Jessen and Sandra Jessen; her six cherished great- grandchildren, Quincy and Cole Renninger, Elizabeth Ashley Walker, and Elyse, Owen and Logan Andre; her dear sister, Patricia Taylor of St. Petersburg, FL; and her many dear nephews and nieces. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by four dear brothers and a dear sister. Her relatives and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Sunday afternoon, March 17, 2013 from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. which will be followed by a Prayer Service at 4:30 p.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Fairview Chapels, (413-533-3307), 506 Britton Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. The parking lot is located in the rear of the funeral home. Her burial will be private at the convenience of her family. Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
