Obituary

Worcester MA - Earleen passed away peacefully at home on March 11th, surrounded by her five loving children and their father, Robert Head. She recently celebrated her 70th birthday and is survived by her daughter Meridith and husband Joel, her sons, Truman and wife Jacqueline, Thomas and wife Joy, Benjamin and wife Karen and Jacob, as well as her precious grandchildren Benson, Abram, Jackson, Tanner, Lillian, Sarah, Aila,Thomson and Joel Jr.

The daughter of Femme Matilda Pietila Granland, she grew up with her maternal family, the Hilli’s. A graduate of Commerce High School, Earleen was an Honors student who was active in cheerleading and the Black Friars Theater. She was very active in organizing the reunions for Bell Hill and the 50th reunion for the Commerce High Class of 61’.

After graduation, Earleen continued her studies at the University of Helsinki, Finland. While there, she taught English at the Berlitz School and later taught Finnish for Adult Night Life in Worcester. A proud Finn, she was an active member of the Finnish Heritage Society of Rutland. She was also a member of Faith Lutheran and Trinity Lutheran Churches.

Earleen recently worked at Fairlawn Rehabilitation Hospital. Over the years, she worked at Whitman’s Market, WCIS and Norelco Corp. during the 80’s promoting the “Microwave.” She also worked with her cousins, Karen Bove and Dolly Markarian in their restaurant ventures. An avid skier, Earleen was a member of the National Ski Patrol. She loved the White Mountains especially skiing Cannon. Many will remember Mrs. Head for running the Tatnuck and West Tatnuck Schools Ski Clubs. Earleen’s greatest joy in life were her children and her grandchildren. She loved to travel with her friends and family around the country and the world.

Her children would like to thank Dr. Richard Irwin and his team; Ginny, Maureen and Cindy for their great care, compassion and love over the past 7 years. A Celebration of her Life will be held on Friday, March 15th at 11:00 AM at Trinity Lutheran Church, 73 Lancaster St., Worcester MA.
