WORCESTER-Edward F. O’Leary, 80, of the Christopher House of Worcester, formerly of Tatnuck Park at Worcester, Coes Pond Village and Fairfield Street died Saturday, July 24th in Memorial Hospital. His wife, Pauline A. (Martunas) O’Leary died in 1995, he leaves 2 daughters, Judith A. wife of Timothy E. Kesner of Abingdon, MD and Joan F. O’Leary of Worcester and her children, Jessica L. Cortes of Worcester, CPL Craig B. Cortes at U.S. Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, CA, Kevin A., Stephen O. and Katherine M. Cortes all of Worcester, a sister, Marguerite Moroney of Millbury, several cousins, many nephews and nieces. 2 brothers, John and James O’Leary and 3 sisters, Mary “Mae” Horgan, Norine Keeney and Gertrude Watson predeceased him.
He was born in Worcester the son of James S. and Nora C. (Loughlin) O’Leary and was a WWII Navy veteran serving aboard the U.S.S. Langley in the Pacific Theater. Mr. O’Leary worked for many years as a brick mason and a steelworker for U.S. Steel Company; subsequently he worked in the maintenance department of the Worcester County Hospital. He was a founding member of St. Andrew the Apostle Church, former president of the Local #1885 Steelworkers Union, AFLCIO, former Ward 7 Democratic City Committee chairman, past member of the Human Rights Committee in Worcester, member of the Knights of Columbus, Alhambra Council #88, American Legion Main South Post #341 and the VFW Post #3657. Mr. O’Leary enjoyed golfing and politics.
The funeral is Thursday, July 29th from O’CONNOR BROTHERS FUNERAL HOME, 592 Park Avenue, with a Mass at 10:00 AM in St. Andrew the Apostle Church, 5 Spaulding Street. Burial will be in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours are Wednesday, July 28th from 5:00 until 8:00 PM in the funeral home.
