Obituary

Theofan "John" H. Litis, 90, formerly of Shrewsbury, passed away peacefully Tuesday, March 12, 2013, at the Knollwood Nursing Center surrounded by family. He was born in Klishari, Albania, son of Avdoxia (Loli) and Haralambos "Harry" Litis. He arrived in the United States at the age of 16 and settled in the Worcester area. Theofan was a Veteran of World War II, 463rd Parachute Field Artillery. He was co-owner of Eli Whitney Steak House in Westborough and owner of the Webster Grille and the Mid-Towne Dinette, both in Worcester. He was a member of St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, its Senior Parishioners, and Peter Bell AHEPA Chapter #80. He was also a member of the Disabled American Veterans and the American Legion.

He was predeceased by his loving wife Argiro "Argie" (Markopoulos) Litis in 2008. He is survived by his three children, Mary E. Rana and her husband Mike, Paul T. Litis and his wife Anne-Michelle, and Ann K. Vangos and her husband Angelo; six grandchildren; a brother and sister, Christos Litis and Sofia Vasos, both residing in Greece; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 15, from Nordgren Memorial Chapel, 300 Lincoln Street, Worcester with an 11:00 am service at St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell St., Worcester. Burial will be in Hope Cemetery. Calling hours will be held at Nordgren Memorial Chapel Thursday, March 14, between 5 and 8 pm. A Trisagion Service will be held between 5 and 6 pm during calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Spyridon Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 102 Russell St., Worcester MA 01609.
