SPRINGFIELD – Colletta M. (Rogers) Aberdale, 95, a longtime resident of the Glenwood section of Springfield was Called Safely Home on Monday, March 11, 2013. She passed into Eternal Life surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family who were her wonderful caregivers. She was born in Holyoke on December 8, 1917, a beloved daughter of the late Joseph F. and Johanna (Kelly) Rogers. She was raised in Holyoke and graduated from the former Sacred Heart High School and the former Holyoke Secretarial School. Following her marriage, she moved to the Hungry Hill section of Springfield and lived there for several years before moving to the Glenwood section of Springfield. During her early years, she was employed as an office clerk at the former Holyoke Photomount Company and later became a homemaker to raise her family. She was predeceased by her beloved husband and best friend, Albert T. Aberdale who was Called Home on March 12, 2006. They were married on June 10, 1939 at the former Sacred Heart Church in Holyoke and were blessed with over 66 years of happiness together. She leaves her five loving children, Elizabeth M. Aberdale and her husband, Anthony J. Andrews, of Wellfleet, Joseph R. Aberdale and his wife, Mary, of Longmeadow and Wellfleet, Colletta J. Aberdale of Southampton, James G. Aberdale and his wife, Colleen, of Belchertown and Maureen Aberdale Nickerson and her husband, Richard, of Springfield; her nine cherished grandchildren, Jillian Aberdale, Leanne Aberdale, Desiree Fournier, James Aberdale, Katie Aberdale and her fiancé, Greg Hood, Ryan Aberdale, Carrie Aberdale, Karly Nickerson and Jenny Nickerson; her two cherished great-grandchildren, Samuel and Madeline Fournier; her dear brothers, William Rogers and his wife, Jane, of South Hadley, Leslie Rogers and his wife, Julie, and Francis Rogers and his wife, Carol, all of Holyoke; her two sisters-in-law, Helen Rogers of Holyoke and Vera Aberdale Hastie of Springfield; and her many nephews and nieces. Besides her parents and husband, she was also predeceased by her dear brothers and sister, James Rogers, Joseph Rogers and Mary Kennedy. Her family would like to thank Dr. Robert Legler at Baystate Medical Center and the staff at Governor’s Center in Westfield for the wonderful care they provided Colletta during her illness and her journey home. Her funeral will be held on Friday morning, March 15, 2013 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), (funeral home will open at 10 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. in Mary, Mother of Hope Church, 840 Page Boulevard, East Springfield, MA 01104. Her burial will follow the Mass at Saint Michael Cemetery, 1601 State Street, Springfield, MA 01109.
