Obituary

Chester E. Laskowski, of Medford, died peacefully on Sunday at the Winchester Hospital. He was 84.

Born and raised in East Cambridge, Chester was the son of the late Chester and Anna (Pisczakowska) Laskowski. He served in the Navy during World War II and then went on to graduate from Boston College with a degree in Mathematics. He taught at the former Christopher Columbus High School where he also coached football.

Chet enjoyed a long career with Metropolitan Life Insurance Co., which included a five-year term in the Frankfurt, Germany office. He served as an Assessor for the City of Medford for 20 years. He was respected in his position not only in City Hall but also among his many colleagues. With his natural ability to teach, Chet wrote a book, Mathematics for Tax Assessors and taught a course at the University of Massachusetts for the Massachusetts Tax Assessor’s Association. He was active in many civic and charitable groups, serving as Exalted Ruler of the Medford Lodge of Elks and as a member of St. Raphael’s Finance Council. He served with other organizations and retired from professional life as the Assessor for the Town of Boxborough. A devoted and loving family man, Chet enjoyed many good friendships and never lost his enthusiasm for billiards and pool.

The beloved husband of Carmela (Vicari), he leaves his children: Anna Murphy of Belmont,
Joseph Laskowski and his wife Susan of Medford, Lisa Sweetser and her husband Bruce of Arlington. He was a loving grandfather to Amy Griffin and her husband Rich, Nicholas Sweetser, Sean Murphy, Declan Murphy and Shauna Laskowski.

Relatives and friends may visit at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main St., Medford, on Thursday March 14th from 4 through 8 PM and again on Friday morning at 9 AM followed by a
funeral mass celebrated in St. Raphael Church, 512 High Street, Medford, Friday at 10 AM. Services will conclude with burial at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Chester’s name to the Alzheimer's Association, 480 Pleasant St., Watertown, MA 02472.
