Obituary

Elaine T. (Eagan) Fitzgerald, 80, of Manchester, died March 10, 2013 at Elliot Hospital after a long illness.
She was born in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, Canada on October 12, 1932 to Sylvester and Kathleen (Purcell) Eagan. She was raised in Milltown, New Brunswick and attended Holy Rosary Commercial College in St. Stephen. She had worked at the Bank of Nova Scotia and later lived in Presque Isle, ME for 10 years. She later moved to Manchester in 1968.
Elaine was a longtime communicant of St. Catherine Church in Manchester where she taught CCD classes. She was an active volunteer for the Sturge-Weber Foundation and the American Diabetes Association. She was also an active supporter of the Woman’s Health Initiative at Brigham & Woman’s Hospital in Boston.
She was reknown for her loving commitment to her family and friends and was very active in, and proud of, the lives of her children and grandchildren. She had a devotion to caring for her disabled son, Timothy. She also enjoyed cooking and baking and is remembered for her delicious chocolate chip cookies. She was a caring person who counseled neighbors through difficult times.
She was predeceased by a son, David M. Fitzgerald in 1981 and by two siblings, Patricia Eagan and Jerome Eagan.
The family includes her husband of 62 years, Herbert P. Fitzgerald of Manchester; five children, Daniel P. Fitzgerald and his wife, Joan Kenney Fitzgerald and Timothy P. Fitzgerald all of Manchester, Kevin M. Fitzgerald and his wife, Marie Gross Fitzgerald of Bedford, John H. Fitzgerald of Nashua and Ann L. Foley and her husband, Thomas, of Wakefield, RI; 11 grandchildren, Ryan P. Fitzgerald, Chelsey L. Fitzgerald, Petty Officer 3rd. class Brenna R. Fitzgerald USN, Grace E. Fitzgerald, Patrick D. Fitzgerald, Kellen E. Fitzgerald, Kaitlin C. Fitzgerald, Matthew J. Fitzgerald, Liam J. Foley, Colin K. Fitzgerald and Kyla E. Foley; three siblings, Dr. Ruth Eagan and David Eagan both of Perth-Andover, New Brunswick and Phillip Eagan of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia; and cousins, nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at St. Catherine Church, corner of Webster and Hemlock streets, Manchester. Committal prayers followed at St. Joseph Cemetery, 448 Donald St., Bedford.
