Obituary

Rayford “Ray” Arthur Vickers, 85, of Omega died Sunday, March 10, 2013, at his residence. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 13, 2013, at Omega Baptist Church. Rev. Joseph L. Crumley will officiate with a eulogy of remembrance to be given by Tammy Stephens. Burial will follow in Omega Cemetery. Richard Hardy, Terry Stephens, Charles Sumner, Steve Sumner, Larry Lamb and Everett Rowan will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Gene Cox, Rayford Hardy, Milton Mercer, Ann Spears and David Keith. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 12, 2013, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Bowen-Donaldson Home for Funerals. Mr. Vickers will be placed in the church one hour prior to the service.

Mr. Vickers was born on June 28, 1927 in Colquitt County and was the son of Arthur Vickers and Ruby Sumner Gunn, both deceased. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Bess “Virginia” Nation Vickers, who died in February of 2012; and his step-father, Andrew Jackson Gunn. He was employees with the Georgia Department of Transportation and was a member of Omega Baptist Church. He was also a veteran of the United States Army.

Mr. Vickers is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Tammy and Rodney Stephens of Suwannee; one brother, Larry Gunn of Omega; one sister; Betty Arrington of Glennville; and two grandchildren, Parker Vickers Stephens and Elizabeth Paige Stephens.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial gifts may be made to Omega Baptist Church, 219 Oak Street, Omega, GA 31775, in Mr. Vickers’ name.
