Dorothea M. (Gifford) Raposa, 95, of Dartmouth died March 10, 2013 at Hathaway Manor.
She was the wife of the late Joseph Raposa.
Born in Dartmouth, the daughter of the late Lewis L. and Nellie M. (Bailey) Gifford, she lived in Dartmouth all of her life.
Mrs. Raposa enjoyed sewing, gardening, bowling and participating in many activities at the Smith Neck Church.
Her family would like to thank all the wonderful people at Hathaway Manor and Life Choice Hospice for their sincere and loving care.
Survivors include her daughter, Jane L. Smith and her husband Walter of Dartmouth; three grandchildren, Dr. Edward R. Smith and his wife Cathy, Karen Kahrl and her husband Benjamin and Dr. Andrew J. Smith and his wife Sara; six great-grandchildren, Caitlin, Morgan and Hudson Smith, Ella and Lily Kahrl and Rose Smith; her dear friend and companion, Marce Johnson; many nieces and nephews including her niece, Gail Sampieri, who was like a daughter to her.
She was the sister of the late Philander Vernon Gifford, Wilfred Kenton Gifford, Everett Launcelot Gifford, Ralph Holder Gifford, Evelyn Millicent Peckham, Alton Dwight Gifford, Helen Estella Forrest and Maurice Nelson Gifford.
Her private Funeral Service will be held in the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford followed by burial in Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to the Schwartz Center for Children, 1 Posa Place, Dartmouth, MA 02747.
