Eugene B. LaPlante, 76, of Derry, NH, died Saturday March 9, 2013 in the Elliot Hospital in Manchester, NH. He was born in Chicago, IL on November 28, 1936, a son of the late Edward (Ted) and Rita (O'Brien) LaPlante. Mr. LaPlante had been a resident of Derry for the past 8 1/2 years, formerly living in Traverse City, MI. He attended Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI, and was a US Army veteran serving during the post-Korean War era. A devoted grandfather, he frequently attended his grandchildren’s sporting events. He was a communicant of St. Jude Parish in Londonderry, NH.
Eugene's wife of 48 years, Annabel E. LaPlante, passed away one day before him on March 8, 2013. He is survived by one son, Ryan LaPlante and his wife Tracy of Londonderry, NH; one daughter, Megan Seleny and her husband Paul of Derry; four grandchildren, Jessica LaPlante, Alexander LaPlante, Conor Seleny, Caitlin Seleny; as well as four siblings, Catherine Maravetz of Westfield, NJ, Greg LaPlante of Kankakee, IL, Colette Maravetz of Columbia, MD, and Jeff LaPlante of Westville, IN. Eugene is pre-deceased by his brother William LaPlante of San Jose, CA.
Calling hours were held on Wednesday, March 13th from 5 - 8pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry. A Liturgy of Christian Burial was celebrated on Thursday at 9:00am in St. Jude Parish, 435 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry. A memorial celebration is being planned for August in Charlevoix, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
