Obituary

F. Jean Kennedy, 89, of Quincy, passed away on March 8, 2013 surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of the late Wilbur (Bill) Band Kennedy for 40 years. Sister of the late Gilbert Melanson and Rita Sargent.

She is survived by her children Dianne Campbell and George (deceased) of Rockland, Deborah Shigley and James of NY, Donald Kennedy of Quincy, David Kennedy and Paula of Quincy, Doreen Robinson and Allen of VT, Darlene Clauson and Chris of NY. She is also survived by her 13 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.

Jean was employed by Quincy Housing Authority as a receptionist for 24 years where she loved serving the citizens of Quincy especially the seniors that often requested her assistance. In 1970 she became a member of the Harborview Residency Committee and remained involved for over 40 years. She volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader in Germantown for 15 years, and founded the Germantown Drop in Center for neighborhood children in 1974 where she served as the Director. In 1987 Jean was an instrumental part of the opening of Germantown food Pantry where she volunteered three times a week for over 20 years. She directed many gatherings for the children of Germantown including multiple Christmas parties and July 4th parades and celebrations.

In 1992 a children’s playground was dedicated to her and she was identified as an “unsung hero and a legend for her community work, especially with children “. In addition to her work with children she served as the Precinct Warden at Snug Harbor School for 40 years, coordinated Cleaner, Greener Quincy in Germantown and served on the Quincy Housing board of Commissioners for 10 years.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend Jean’s Memorial Mass at Sacred Heart Church, 386 Hancock St, N. Quincy, MA on Wednesday, March 13 at 11:30 am.
