TEWKSBURY - Andrew J. Fleury Sr., age 67, a member of a well known Tewksbury family, died peacefully, Thursday evening, March 7, at the Lowell General Hospital, surrounded by his beloved family, after a lengthy illness. He was the devoted husband of Mary L. (Nolan) Fleury, his high school sweetheart, with whom he had celebrated a 48th wedding anniversary this past September 19th.
He was born January 15, 1946, one of four sons of Rita (Paré) Fleury of So. Daytona Beach, FL, and the late Henry J. “Hank” Fleury, and had remained a resident of Tewksbury throughout his life. He was a member of Tewksbury Memorial High School’s Class of 1964.
He was a lifelong musician, part of the Fleury family legacy, and specialized as a Bass Guitarist. He was Bassist for the Good Guys band, and had also sat in with several other bands including his parent’s band, Rita and the Stardusters.
He was also a devout Roman Catholic and a member of the Marian Devotion. During his lifelong faith journey he was a member of the Nocturnal Adoration Society at the Holy Trinity Church in Lowell, and the Perpetual Adoration Society at St. William’s Church in Tewksbury. He attended daily Mass at St. William’s Church, and prayed the Rosary daily. He was also a member of the Fr. Coppen’s Council, Knight’s of Columbus, Council 4336 in Tewksbury.
He was a skilled carpenter, and worked for over 40 years as a contractor. He was the proprietor of Country Home Maintenance, and was especially proud to have earned a Contractors Supervisor License with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
Besides his wife and mother, he is survived by four children, Andrew J. Fleury Jr., and his wife Jenny (Vole) Fleury of Highland Park, IL, Michelle M. Donovan of Salem, NH, Lisa C. Mancuso and her husband Mathew of Billerica, and John P. Fleury and his wife Lori (Nunziato) Fleury of No. Andover; thirteen grandchildren, Nicholas, Michael, and Amanda Fleury of IL, Katherine “KK,” Melisa, and Daniel J. Donovan III of Salem, NH, Samantha, Ashley, and Anthony Mancuso of Billerica, and Krista, Katelyn, Jeana, and Elizabeth Fleury of No. Andover; three brothers, Henry P. Fleury of Haverhill who was husband of the late Patricia (Sheehan) Fleury, Dennis C. Fleury and his wife Sharon (Ramey) Fleury of Greenville, NH, and Donald Fleury and his wife Linda (Brown) of Edgewater, FL; his sisters and brothers-in-law, Catherine and Paul McMahon of W. Bridgewater, Paul and Marilyn Nolan of Andover, Charlotte and Philip Hureau of Lowell, Michael Riddle of Wilmington who was husband of the late Dorothy (Nolan) Riddle, James and LuAnn Nolan of Arkansas; many nieces and nephews; and was son-in-law of the late Louis B. and Catherine (Doucette) Nolan.
His Funeral Mass was celebrated Wednesday, March 13, in St. William's Church, 1351 Main St. (Rte. 38) Tewksbury. Burial followed at St. Mary's Cemetery, No. Tewksbury.
