Obituary

Sgt. Russell L. Goodnow, 63, of Londonderry, NH died March 7, 2013 in the Elliot Hospital, Manchester, NH following a brief illness. Russ was born in Brockton, MA on February 9, 1950, a son of the late Arthur E. and Arlene (Dickerman) Goodnow. He was a resident of Londonderry for most of his life and was employed as a Sergeant with the Londonderry Police Department where worked for 34 years. His work with LPD was broad: he managed the Town’s police fleet for over two decades; he acted as a mentor to every young police officer who came aboard; he was an example of police service to community every day he served. He was the founder of the Sgt. Russell Goodnow Firing Range in Londonderry. Russ loved to fish, and spend time with his wife and family. He was a member of the Southern NH Flying Tigers R/C plane club.
He is survived by his wife, Mary (Foley) Goodnow of Londonderry, two sons, Shaun Goodnow of Londonderry, and Christopher Goodnow and his wife Nicole Ledoux of Manchester, NH, one daughter, Michelle Goodnow of Manchester, NH, three grandchildren, Cody Goodnow, Taylor Goodnow and Cale Goodnow, three siblings, Joan Ayube of Middleboro, MA, Jan Sniger of Worcester, MA, and James Goodnow of Epsom, NH, his mother-in-law, Olga Foley of Londonderry, a family member, Kristen Gore of Litchfield, NH, also several nieces and nephews.
Calling hours were held Tuesday March 12, 2013 from 4 – 8pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd., Londonderry. Funeral services were held on Wednesday at 11:00am in the funeral home. Burial will be in the spring in Pleasant View Cemetery, Londonderry, NH. Donations in his memory may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
