Theresa V. (Sylvia) Poirier, 58, of New Bedford died Tuesday July 20, 2004 unexpectedly at home. She was the wife of Henry M. Poirier.
Born in Acushnet, the daughter of Elvira (Martin) Sylvia of Fairhaven and the late Leonard Sylvia, she was raised in Fairhaven and had lived in New Bedford for many years.
Mrs. Poirier was employed as a baker in the cafeteria at Greater New Bedford Regional Vocational-Technical High School for the past 10 years, where she enjoyed her job and was very close with her co-workers and students.
She was a graduate of LeBaron Hairdressing Academy.She loved traveling, visiting the casinos in Las Vegas, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Survivors include her husband; her mother; two daughters, Catherine Henriques, and her husband Pedro, and Carolyn Cooper, all of New Bedford; a brother, Leonard Sylvia, Jr.,and his wife Maureen, of Rochester; a sister, Mary Sylvia Pacheco of Dartmouth; five grandchildren, Ashley Gomes, Adam Gomes, Lindsey Gomes, Jason Henriques and Christina Henriques; her brother-in-law, Louis Poirier, and his wife Faith, of New Bedford; her sister-in-law, Irene Avila, and her husband Bruce, of Denver, Colorado; and several nieces and nephews.
She was the mother of the late Henry Poirier, and daughter-in-law of the late Henry J. and Alma Poirier.
Funeral from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New BedfordSaturday July 24, 2004 at 9 AM.Funeral Mass at St. Lawrence Church at 10 AM.Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours Thursday July 22, 2004 from 7-9 PM, and Friday July 23, 2004 from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery.
