Obituary

CHICOPEE – Enola Gay (Turgeon) Abbott, 66, of the Willimansett section of Chicopee was Called Safely Home on Thursday, February 28, 2013. She passed into Eternal Life at Holyoke Medical Center surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family who were her devoted caregivers. She was born in Holyoke on September 18, 1946, a beloved daughter of the late John E. Turgeon, Jr. and Enola M. (Leroux) Turgeon. She graduated in 1964 from Cathedral High School in Springfield and lived in the Willimansett section and Aldenville section of Chicopee for her entire life. She furthered her education and graduated from the former Springfield Technical College where she received a degree as a dental assistant. During her early career, she worked as a dental assistant at Westover Air Force Base and later worked for the American Red Cross. She later became a stay at home mom to raise her family. She was a loving woman who adored her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She was a communicant at Sainte Rose de Lima Church in Chicopee. Besides her beloved parents, she was also predeceased by her cherished granddaughter, Julia Marie Garcia who was Called Home on February 13, 2002. She leaves her beloved husband and best friend, Thomas L. Abbott, Sr. They were married on March 8, 1970 at the Second Baptist Church in Holyoke and were blessed with over 42 years of happiness together. She also leaves her four loving children, Kathie A. Starke and her husband, Howard Starke, of the Indian Orchard section of Springfield, Tammie J. Abbott-Garcia and her husband, Heriberto Garcia, of Chicopee, Laura L. Abbott-Gallacher and her husband, Glen Gallacher, of Chicopee and Thomas L. Abbott, Jr. and his wife, Jaime, of Chicopee; her 12 cherished grandchildren, Stephen, Johnathan and Amanda Starke, Christopher, Matthew and Michael Garcia, Brandon, Nathan and Ryan Gallacher, and Christopher, Thomas, III, and Rose Abbott; her two cherished great-granddaughters, Briella and Audriella Garcia; and her many dear nephews, nieces and cousins. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday morning, March 6, 2013 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Aldenville Chapels (413-532-9806), 13 Dale Street, Chicopee, MA 01020, (funeral home will open at 9 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. in Sainte Rose de Lima Church, 600 Grattan Street, Chicopee, MA 01020. Her family will greet friends at the church following the Mass as her burial will be private for her family at Sainte Rose Cemetery, Chicopee. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 5, 2013 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. The parking lot and main entrance are located in the rear of the funeral home at 20 Lafayette Street, Chicopee, MA 01020.
