Obituary

Worcester – James J. Gavin Sr., 60, of Worcester, died on Tuesday, February 26th in UMass Memorial Medical Center – University Campus after a brief illness.

Mr. Gavin is survived by his wife of 37 years but have been together for 40 years, Anne Marie (Lucia) Gavin; two sons, James J. Gavin of Gardenia, CA and Christopher D. Gavin of Worcester; four brothers, Donald Gavin and his wife Pat of Webster, Daniel Gavin and his wife Pat of Millbury, Paul Gavin and William Gavin and his wife Joan all of Worcester; four sisters, Tarese Basilici of Florida, Barbara Schulman and her husband Sanford of Auburn, Dorothy Landry and her husband Richard and Shirley Franco and her husband Gilbert, all of Worcester; a granddaughter Emily who he adored and many nephews and nieces.

Jim was born in Worcester, son of the late Austin and Gertrude Gavin. He is a graduate of South High School and worked for many years as a cab driver in Worcester.

Mr. Gavin volunteered for the Seven Hills Bingo on Thursdays and Saturdays for over 20 years
Was a fan of the Celtics, Red Sox and the Patriots which he shared with both of his sons.

The funeral will be held on Tuesday, March 5 from the Alfred Roy & Sons Funeral Home 12 Hammond St. with a Mass at 10 AM in St. Bernard Church 228 Lincoln St. Burial will follow in St. John’s Cemetery. Calling hours are on Monday from 3 to 8 PM in the funeral home.
