Obituary

HOOKSETT, NH – Marie T. (Forgue) Gavin, 63, of Hooksett, New Hampshire was Called Safely Home on Wednesday, February 27, 2013. She passed into Eternal Life at her sister Pauline’s home in Southwick surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family and her devoted caregivers. She was born in Springfield on October 20, 1949, a beloved daughter of Lillian M. (Morin) Forgue Dufault of Chicopee and the late George C. Forgue. She was raised on Nottingham Street in the Hungry Hill section of Springfield, graduated from Cathedral High School and lived in the city for many years. She later lived in Beauford, South Carolina before moving to Hooksett, New Hampshire in 1975. Marie furthered her education and graduated from Fitchburg State College where she received her Degree in Nursing. She became a Registered Nurse and furthered her education at the Sloan Kettering School in New York City. In 1975, Marie went to work as a Registered Nurse at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Manchester, New Hampshire and retired on December 31, 2011. She was a member and longtime secretary of the Wound Ostomy Association. During their leisure time, Marie and her husband, James, were avid boaters on Lake Winnipesaukee in New Hampshire. Marie was a loving woman who adored her family and showered them with her love and affection which was returned to her a thousand fold. She was a communicant of the former Saint Thomas Aquinas Church on Harriet Street in Springfield. Besides her beloved mother, she leaves her devoted husband and best friend, James R. Gavin. They were married on March 26, 1972 at the former Saint Thomas Aquinas Church in Springfield and were blessed with 40 years of happiness together. She also leaves her loving sisters and brothers, Pauline M. Forgue of Southwick, Marguerite A. “Peggy” Switzer and her husband, Cary, of Chicopee, Suzanne A. Harrison and her husband, Robert, of Easthampton, Mark G. Forgue and his wife, Denise of Springfield and David C. Forgue of Plaistow, NH and his wife, Nancy; her dear aunts and uncle, Irene Remillard and Lucienne Morin, both of Chicopee and Ernest Morin of Holyoke; and her many dear nephews and nieces. The family wishes to thank Amy and Elizabeth from Baystate Visiting Nurse and Hospice for their loving care of Marie. Her funeral will be held on Saturday morning, March 9, 2013 beginning at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107, (funeral home will open at 8:30 a.m.), followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in Mary, Mother of Hope Church, 840 Page Boulevard, East Springfield, MA 01104. Her burial will follow the Mass at Calvary Cemetery, 292 Hampden Street, Chicopee, MA 01013. Her family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, March 8, 2013 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Her family has requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to Baystate Visting Nurse and Hospice, 280 Chestnut Street, Springfield, MA 01199.
