Obituary

Mrs. Edith G. (DeSalvo) Foley, a lifelong resident of Medford and beloved wife of the late David A. Foley, died at her home on Thursday morning, February 28, 2013. She was 100 years old.
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, on January 19, 1913, she was the beloved daughter of the late Anthony and Gaetana (Frisone) DeSalvo. Edith was a graduate of Medford High School and the Mansfield Beauty School. Mrs. Foley was a Hairdresser for many years and worked at the Brentwood Beauty Shop in West Medford. She was a communicant of St. Raphael Church and a member of the Medford Women’s Club. She had also been a member of the Ladies Sodality at St. Raphael Church. Edith was a volunteer at the Lawrence Memorial Gift Shop where she logged more than 27,000 hours of service.
She will be very sorely missed by her loving son and daughter-in-law; David J. and his wife Eva G. Foley of Middleton, sister; Jeanne Mayo of California, grandchildren; Michael, John and Christopher Gentile and Raquel and Dana Foley, great-grandchildren; Derek, Drew, Darren, Alicia, David, Jordan, Jenna, Genna, Deren, Dustin and Brian and many nieces and nephews. She was also the loving mother of the late Patricia Foley and sister of the late Lena Zirpolo and John and Horace DeSalvo.
Her funeral was held from the Beals-Geake-Magliozzi 29 Governors Avenue, Medford, Monday, March 4, 2013, at 9 AM, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated in St. Raphael Church, 512 High Street, Medford at 10 AM. Many relatives and friends were in attendance. Visiting hours were held on Sunday, March 3, 2013, from 4 to 8 PM. Interment was in Oak Grove Cemetery in Medford. In lieu of flowers, donations in Edith’s memory may be made to the Friends of Lawrence Memorial Hospital, 170 Governors Avenue, Medford, MA 02155.
