Frederick G. “Fred” Flammini (ret. Lt. BFD) age 71 of Brockton died Wednesday February 27, 2013 at the Brigham & Women’s Hospital in Boston after a brief illness. He was the devoted husband of Christine R. (Zibelli) Flammini for 50 years. Fred was born in Chelsea, son of the late Nicholas and Nancy (Ciampolillo) Flammini and moved to Brockton in 1952. A 1958 graduate of Brockton High School, Fred also received an Associate Degree in Fire Science from Massasoit Community College.
Fred loved to travel and spend time with his family. He retired in 1997 as a Lieutenant from the Brockton Fire Department after 30 years of service to the city. He was a member of Fire Fighters Local 144 and the Brockton Firefighters Relief Association.
Fred proudly served in the US Marine Corps. He was an active member of the Second Marine Division Association and Metro South Marine Corps League. Fred served as National President and Adjutant of the SMDA. He was also Past President of the New England Chapter of the SMDA.
In addition to his wife Christine, Fred leaves his three children Steven J. Flammini and his wife Patricia of Mansfield; Carla M. Flammini of Brockton; Michael A. Flammini and his wife Stacey of Simsbury, CT. Loving grandfather of Matthew, Thomas, Kristen, Carolyn, Joseph and John. He was the brother of Sandra Weiner of New Jersey and nephew of Gerry and Mary Ciampolillo of Winthrop. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held in the Conley Funeral Home 138 Belmont Street (Rte 123) Brockton Sunday 3-7 pm. The funeral procession will gather at the funeral home on Monday at 9:30 am for a Funeral Mass in Our Lady of Lourdes Church at 10:30 am.
