Gertrude T. (Ryan) Ahern, 84, of Franklin, passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at the Metro West Medical Center in Framingham surrounded by her family. She was the beloved wife of William A. Ahern Jr.
Born in Boston on September 18, 1928, she was the daughter of the late William and Elizabeth (McGann) Ryan.
Mrs. Ahern was a resident of Franklin since 1964. She grew up in Roxbury and graduated from Mission High School.
Mrs. Ahern was a medical receptionist at Norwood Hospital for 14 years retiring in 1985 and had previously worked at Boston City Hospital.
Mrs. Ahern was an active parishioner of St. Brendan Parish in Bellingham.
Besides her husband, she is survived by her children, William Ahern, III and his wife Julie of Bellingham, AnnMarie Invernizzi and her husband Shawn of Blackstone, Joseph Ahern and his longtime companion Mary of Thorndike, Robert Ahern and his wife Lisa of Uxbridge and Elizabeth Ahern of Franklin.
She is also survived by three grandchildren Ryan, Kyle and Kayleigh, a sister Josephine Collins of Schenectady, NY, a brother Paul Ryan of Carver and many nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by six brothers and sisters.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her funeral from the Ginley Crowley Funeral Home, 3 Barber St. in Medway (www.ginleyfuneralhomes.com) on Monday, March 4 at 9 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at St. Brendan Church, 382 Hartford Ave. in Bellingham at 10 a.m.
Burial will take place at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne at 2:15 p.m.
Calling hours will be held on Sunday from 4 – 8 p.m.
