Obituary

Ina Louise Reynolds McIntosh, beloved wife of Edmond C. McIntosh, passed away peacefully Sunday, February 24 at age 87 at home in Teaneck, New Jersey, after a battle with breast cancer. Family, including her husband of 62 years, daughters, grandchildren, great grandchildren and sons in law surrounded her.

The oldest daughter of Katherine (McPherson) Reynolds and Stephen Reynolds, Mrs. McIntosh was born in New York City in 1925. She attended The Wadleigh High School for Girls. She graduated from Hunter College, and earned her R.N. from the Bellevue Hospital School of Nursing. She worked as a surgical nurse at Bellevue before becoming a full time homemaker. She returned to the workforce as a science and hygiene teacher in the New York City public schools following studies at Teacher’s College. At retirement, she was an assistant principal.

Ina Reynolds and Edmond McIntosh married in 1951 and raised five daughters in New York City and Teaneck, New Jersey. Ina loved to travel, especially to Europe and to Jamaica, her ancestral home. She spoke French and German. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, sculpture, drawing and literature. She collected antiques and hats of all kinds. Positive and gregarious, she conversed with strangers as easily as she did with old friends. She volunteered in service to youth, battered women and the incarcerated. She engaged in her children’s activities, co-founding a Girl Scout troop, attending recitals and track meets, and running for school board.

Ina McIntosh is predeceased by her sisters, Merdiline Jones and Hazel McIntyre. She is survived by her husband Edmond McIntosh; daughters Marilyn Griffin Johnson, Karen McIntosh, Claire McIntosh Williams, Jeanne McIntosh Richardson, and Carolyn McIntosh Evans; her sons-in-law Richard Johnson, Kelvin Reginald Williams, Dace Richardson and John Evans; her sisters Lona Clarke and Judith Creary; her grandchildren Adenike Griffin Williams and Kojo Griffin and his wife Nitzanah, Dace Jr., Deven and Lena Richardson, Kelvin C. and Reginald S. Williams, Joy Johnson-Ifill and Crystal Johnson; and great grandchildren Zion, Kether and Osiris Griffin, plus Jason, Justin, Ty and Lauren Ifill and Aspen Johnson.
