Obituary

Lucienne M. (Martin) Vaillancourt, age 99 died at the Spaulding Hospital North Shore on Wednesday, February 27, 2013 following a brief illness. She was the wife of the late Raymond Vaillancourt.

Born and raised in Riviere du Loup in the Province of Quebec, she was the daughter of the late Alphonse and Ann (LeBel) Martin. Lucy came to Salem in 1939 and during the war years worked for Sylvania at the Loring Avenue plant. Following the war she transferred to the Danvers facility and retired with 37 years with GTE Sylvania.

An independent and active woman, she was a member of the Ward One Senior Club and the Salem Council on Aging for which she volunteered. She was a devoted member of the former St. Joseph Parish and member of Les Dames de la Ste. Famille. Among her hobbies, Sewing was her favorite.

She is survived by several nieces and nephews including, Dianne Belliveau of Weymouth, Claudette Grau and Lise Martin both of Canada, Ron and Robert Macauley both of Massachusetts, a sister-in-law, Therese Gaudet of Windham, NH, and her dear friends, Claire Montminy and Leona Belvin both of Salem.

Relatives and friends are invited to gather at the Levesque Funeral Home, 163 Lafayette St. [Rt. 114 / 1-A] Salem on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at 9:30 A.M. to be followed by her funeral mass in St. James Church, 156 Federal St., Salem at 11:00 A.M. Burial will follow in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Salem. At Lucy’s request, there will be no additional visiting hours. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
