Obituary

East Bridgewater – Letha May (Wilde) Gilson 87 died Monday February 11 after a period of failing health.

Born in Jamestown, RI she was the daughter of the late Paul and Ethel (Hanson) Wilde.

Letha loved spending time with all her family and she also enjoyed, her animals, especially her cats.

However, it is not known how she could have manage to cook, clean, paint the house, plant her flowers and tend to her gardens, while raising five children, working two and sometimes three jobs at a time. One of her jobs she enjoyed for many years, was at the Bridgewater State College.


She will be remembered as loving everyone, often giving gifts to her neighbors and their children on their birthdays and Christmas. “Ma” as she was known to all, will be missed by those who loved her.

She is survived by her loving children Christine Freeman, Jean Pike and her husband Charles, Dennis Gilson and Jane, and Debbie Gilson-Caron, her sister Pauline Blackwell, and her daughter-in-law Janis Gilson. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and nine great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and her special friend and “daughter” Deborah Cristaldi as well as her friend Margery. She was the mother of the late Richard Gilson, grandmother of the late Kristen Gilson mother-in-law of the late Ted Freemen and sister–in–law of the late Howard Blackwell.

Family and friends are invited to attend her graveside service to be held Saturday March 2 at 11 AM in the Elmwood Cemetery, East Street, East Bridgewater.
