WEBSTER – Joseph M. Jasczur, 94, of Webster passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 20, 2013 in St. Vincent Hospital, Worcester. His wife of 64 years, Stasia A. (Stolarczyk) Jasczur, passed away last May.
Mr. Jasczur was born in Uxbridge to Jan and Aniela (Nowak) Jasczur. When Joseph was a young man, he travelled to his parents’ homeland of Poland to study to become a priest. It was during this time that WWII broke out and Joseph was captured by the German Nazis. He was initially brought to Russia and later sent to Germany as a ‘slave’ laborer in a winery for five years. When WWII ended, Joseph made his way back to Uxbridge via Ellis Island where he was approached by a film-maker who wanted to make a movie about his life as a civilian POW.
Upon his return to Uxbridge, he went to work as a machine operator and a fixer at Schuster Mills where he continued to work until his retirement.
Mr. Jasczur was a member of St. Joseph Basilica. Joseph was an outstanding dancer, avid hunter, world traveller and continued to ride his Harley until the age of 80; but faith and family were always the cornerstones of his life.
Joseph leaves many nephews and nieces, grandnephews and grandnieces as well as his life-long friend and neighbor. He was preceded in death by a brother Boleslaw Jasczur and by a sister Julie Wojcik.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, March 2nd at 11:00 A.M. in St. Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb Street in Webster (please meet at the church). Burial will be in St. Joseph Garden of Peace. There are no calling hours.
